Cultivating Body Respect for EveryBODY

A free community event with Linda Bacon, PhD

Join us for an inspiring and thought-provoking seminar as Dr. Linda Bacon debunks traditionally held beliefs about the relationship between weight and health while celebrating the natural diversity of bodies.  Backed by a breadth of new evidence and insight, she will expose popular weight myths and ease concerns that dieting or controlling your eating are a necessary or valuable part of attaining a healthy or desirable body.   All are welcome as Dr. Bacon translates the latest science into practical advice that will give you confidence to combat unhealthy cultural ideals and, ultimately, regain a trusting relationship with your body.

Linda Bacon, Ph.D., is an internationally-recognized authority on topics related to nutrition, weight and health. A nutrition professor and researcher, she holds graduate degrees in physiology, psychology, and exercise metabolism, with a specialty in nutrition, has conducted federally funded studies on diet and health, and is well-published in top scientific journals. Linda’s advocacy for Health at Every Size® has generated a substantial following.  She is quoted regularly in national and international publications, including TheNew York Times and London’s Sunday Times, and magazines including Prevention, Glamour, Cooking Light, Newsweek, Fitness Magazine, Utne Reader, and National Geographic, and has appeared recently on ABC Nightly News with Diane Sawyer and Good Morning America. Well known for her political and social commentary.  Her first book, Health at Every Size: The Surprising Truth About Your Weight, has been called the “Bible” for the alternative health movement. She is also a dynamic and compelling public speaker, consistently drawing large and enthusiastic crowds.

With a rare dual perspective combining academic expertise and clinical experience, Dr. Bacon is adept at providing a link between scientific research and practical application. This enables her to bring authority and compassion to her writing and speaking. Her latest book,  Body Respect: What Conventional Health Books Get Wrong, Leave Out, or Just Fail to Understand, is a crash course in what you need to know about bodies and health, and will be followed shortly by her next book, Eat Well: For your Self, For the World, a handbook for cutting neurosis from our daily diets and, in the process, improving our health and the health of our world. Both are co-authored with Dr. Lucy Aphramor.

Join us each week from 7:00 to 8:30 PM for a recovery-focused support group open to anyone struggling with any type of eating disorder as well as friends, family and support people. This group is FREE and facilitated by a licensed clinician.
