Harry Brandt, M.D., Director of the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt
Dr. Brandt has 20 years of experience studying and treating people with eating disorders. Throughout his career, Dr. Brandt has regularly focused his vast psychiatric experience on eating disorders, having previously served as the Director of the Eating Disorders Program at the National Institutes of Health, and the Center for Eating Disorders at both Mercy and St. Joseph Medical Centers.
Participating in the difficult process of healing patients, however, remains Dr. Brandt’s true passion.
“Our central focus is on eating disorders,” says Dr. Brandt. “Our professional staff and unit is specifically designed to help a patient with an eating disorder recover, regardless of severity or complexity.”
Dr. Brandt received his bachelor’s degree from Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass., with a triple concentration in Chemistry, Biology, and Biochemistry. He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 1983.
Steven Crawford, M.D., Associate Director of the Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt
Dr. Steven Crawford has 15 years experience studying and treating people with eating disorders, focusing primarily on providing the best care to patients with serious eating disorders.
When he’s not treating eating disorders, he’s teaching other physicians about them and engaging in groundbreaking research. Dr. Crawford serves on the faculty of the University of Maryland School of Medicine where he teaches medical students and trainees about the identification of eating disorders. Additionally, he serves as a lead investigator in federally funded research grants.
He sees his specific role at the Center for Eating Disorders as “helping to knit the whole eating disorder program together so that every patient who comes in has a master treatment plan which maps out that individual’s goals.”
Dr. Crawford received his bachelor’s degree from LaSalle College in Philadelphia with a dual major in biology and psychology. He attended the University of Maryland School of Medicine from 1982 to 1986.
Kate Clemmer, LGSW, Community Outreach Coordinator at The Center for Eating Disorders at Sheppard Pratt
Kate Clemmer earned her Master of Social Work degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore with a focus on Management & Community Organization and a specialization in Child, Adolescent & Family Health. Before joining the Center for Eating Disorders in 2008, Kate provided school-based therapy to adolescents and families in Baltimore City and coordinated a multi-school health education and prevention program. Currently, as CED’s Community Outreach Coordinator, Kate provides educational workshops and prevention activities in the community, facilitates the Center’s weekly support group and coordinates the Center’s annual community and professional events. She also manages CED’s website, social networking sites and writes for the blog .
